KATHMANDU: The death toll from the devastating Bhotekoshi flood in Rasuwa has risen to 188, with bodies recovered from several districts along the river system.
According to police, 23 additional bodies were recovered from riverbanks in Nawalparasi East, bringing the total number of bodies found in the district to 49.
So far, 64 bodies have been recovered in Chitwan, 49 in Nawalparasi East, 25 in Dhading, 20 in Gorkha, 12 in Nuwakot, nine in Tanahun, five in Nawalparasi West and two in Rasuwa.
A total of 73 people have been reported injured in the disaster. Police said 43 people were injured in Rasuwa, 27 in Nuwakot and three in Dhading.
Meanwhile, authorities have reported different figures regarding the number of people missing. Police have reported 26 missing people, while the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has received information that 161 people are missing in Rasuwa.
According to police data, 81 security personnel are among those reported missing, including 44 Nepal Army personnel, 24 Nepal Police personnel and 13 Armed Police Force personnel.
NDRRMA has also reported that 579 tourists are missing from the flood-affected areas. The authority said information on missing people is still being collected from various districts as search and rescue operations continue.
