KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ highlighted the government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment by harnessing the wealth of knowledge, skills, experience, and wisdom of senior citizens. In a message of best wishes on the third National Senior Citizens Day, PM Dahal emphasized the role of seniors as guidelines for running state affairs.

PM Dahal shared that the government has established a system to pass on the moral ideals of senior citizens to the new generation. He acknowledged society and the nation as the continuation of good cultures and inspirations for society-relative development.

Addressing the challenges posed by changes in the demographic structure, PM Dahal stressed the need for all state mechanisms to be sensitive to the issues concerning the senior citizens’ population. The government is working to ensure that senior citizens can live a dignified, healthy, and happy life.

The message also outlined the government’s efforts to create an environment where senior citizens receive continuous support and assistance from their families and communities. PM Dahal assured that programs targeting senior citizens, such as social security allowances, senior citizens’ health insurance, shelters, and daycare centers, would be expanded and improved in the future.

The slogan for the third National Senior Citizens Day is ‘Respect for Senior Citizens, Recognition of Our Civilizations.’ The day is commemorated on the 11th day of the Nepali month of Poush every year, marking the day when the state began distributing social security allowances to senior citizens in 2051 BS (December 26, 1994).

PM Dahal expressed his hope that the day would inspire everyone to fulfill the national responsibility of integrating efforts from families, societies, and the country to ensure rights for senior citizens and guarantee their self-dignity. He extended his best wishes to all senior citizens who have dedicated their important lifetime for the greater good of society and the country.
