Sub-station comes into operation at Basantapur

SANKHUWASABHA: A sub-station built at Basantapur in Dharmadevi municipality in Sakhuwasabha district has come into operation.

The sub-station, established under the 220 KV transmission line under the Koshi Corridor, is considered to be an important project for electrification of the eastern part of the country 220 KV transmission line Koshi Corridor.

The sub-station of 220-132-33 KV is set up by the Nepal Electricity Authority at 2,450 metres above the sea level. Two substations of similar capacity are already operative in Sunsari and Sankhuwasabha districts under the Project.

The Indian company L and T was awarded contract to build the sub-stations at estimated USD 26.01 million.

NEA managing director Kulman Ghising said that infrastructures have been built as a backbone for distribution and expansion of the electricity generated by the hydro power projects in the eastern part of the country especially Taplejung, Terahthum, Sankhuwasabha and Bhojpur districts to the national transmission grid.

The sub-station at Basantapur will transmit the electricity coming from Tumlingtar and Dungesankhu in Taplejung district, it was shared.

The sub-station had investment from the government of Nepal and concessional loan from Exim Bank of India.
