FNCCI President Dhakal’s increased business ties with China spurs controversy

KATHMANDU: President of the Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FNCCI) Chandra Dhakal has come under scrutiny for his vocal support of China, seemingly extending beyond his usual business purview.

Engaging in activities such as penning articles in newspapers, Dhakal’s increasing alignment with China has raised suspicions among some who accuse him of pursuing personal gains outside the realm of his business interests.

It should be noted that the calls for a transparent investigation into Dhakal’s dealings with China have grown louder, questioning the nature of his evolving relationship with the nation.

Meanwhile, Dhakal’s IME Group has announced a Rs 10 billion investment in the Disneyland Project.

The IME Group has finalized plans to construct a Disneyland Theme Park with a staggering investment of Rs 10 billion in collaboration with China CAMC Engineering.

The conglomerate is set to emulate the Shanghai Disneyland, an iconic tourist attraction in China.

Dhakal signed an agreement during Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s visit to China to this effect.

Nabil Bank’s partnership with CAMK’s subsidiary, China National Machinery Industry Corporation sets the stage for Dhakal to express a shared vision of elevating Nepal’s tourism landscape.

Reflecting on the project’s blueprint, Dhakal highlighted the replication of the Shanghai Disneyland Theme Park model, emphasizing the provision of technical expertise by the Chinese company, with IME Group spearheading the significant investment.

While the specifics of the park’s location remain undisclosed, the agreement signals an ambitious venture with China, which has been interfering in Nepal’s internal affairs.
