President’s Office sends back proposal to pardon Resham Chaudhary to Home Ministry

KATHMANDU: The President’s Office has returned the Home Ministry’s proposal to pardon Resham Chaudhary, who was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for his involvement in the 2015 Tikapur incident, back to the Ministry.

The petition sent by the President’s Office to the Home about Resham Chaudhary contains two main points.

Sources at the President’s Office said that the letter was sent back to the Ministry of Home Affairs asking the Ministry to ensure that the proposal was in accordance with the prevailing law, the decision of the court and the principles propounded by the Supreme Court.

It should be noted that Senior Superintendent of Police Laxman Neupane, Police Inspectors Balaram Bista and Keshav Bohara, constables Shyam Bahadur Khadka and Lokendra Bahadur Chand, Armed Police Senior Constable Lalit Saud, Assistant Constable Ram Bihari Chaudhary and Police Constable Janak Negi were killed in the Tikapur incident.

District Court Kailali and High Court Dipayal sentenced Resham Chaudhary to life imprisonment in that incident.

The Supreme Court upheld the decision of the High Court.
