22-member US Army team in Kathmandu to enhance bilateral military relations

KATHMANDU: A 22-member team of the US Army arrived in Kathmandu on Sunday to participate in the bilateral military discussion with Nepal Army (NA).

Nepali Army and US Army are holding three-day bilateral military discussions from March 27.

According to Brigadier General Krishna Prasad Bhandari, Nepal, and America have been holding such discussions every year since 2018.

The previous edition of such talks was held in Hawaii, USA last year.
Brigadier General Bhandari shared that this year’s meeting will be focused on peace, security, humanitarian assistance, disaster management, and the exchange of expertise.

From Nepal’s side, a 14-member team comprising joint secretaries and under-secretaries of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance, and Ministry of Defense and major generals of the Nepali Army will participate in the discussions. The Nepali team will be led by Major General Ashok Raj Sigdel.

Similarly, a 22-member team led by Major General Christopher Smith, the deputy commander of US Pacific Command, will be representing the US delegation.
