DODHARA CHANDANI: Regular works at the Far Western University Central Office have been hampered due to the weeklong lockout.
The All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU) close to the CPN-UML and the National Democratic Students Union (NDSU) close to the Rastriya Prajatantra Party have padlocked the University’s central office in Mahendranagar for a week now, putting forth various demands.
University Information Officer Santosh Bishta said the University’s daily works have been affected due to the lockout.
“The University’s regular works are halted due to the padlocking at the Central Office since July 17. Although initiatives have been taken for talks, discussions have not taken place to remove the lockout,” said Bishta.
Joint-secretary of the ANNFSU Far Western University Organizing Committee, Deepak Raj Awasthi said an indefinite lockout has been carried out at the University’s Central Office.
“We have been compelled to padlock the central office after our demands have gone unaddressed. The University administration has called us for talks even after a week of the padlocking,” he said.
Awasthi added that they are ready for talks if the University calls them for a dialogue.
According to him, ANNFSU has put forth nine-point demands, including the implementation of the agreement the student union and the University reached in January, moving ahead the process for appointing teachers required for the Faculty of Humanities, construction of hostel and stopping the university teachers teaching in private colleges.
