Fake Bhutanese refugee scam: 14 still at large

KATHMANDU: Fourteen individuals indicted in the fake Bhutanese refugee scam are still absconding.

The District Attorney Office Kathmandu filed a case against 30 individuals at District Court in connection with fake Bhutanese refugee scam on Wednesday.

Among the 30 individuals sued by the Attorney Office, 16 are under arrest.

According to District Attorney Mahesh Khatri, the 14 individuals who are absconding will be issued an arrest warrant and their property suspended from transaction.

With this, the court has initiated recording statements and a pleading is conducted whether to keep the arrested ones in custody for further investigation or not.

Those who faced the case are sued under various crimes such as crime against the state, organized crime and integrated crime.

Even the cases invoking anti-corruption law and money laundering will be applied in the case of those holding public posts.

Attorney Khatri stated that recovery of over Rs 270 million has been demanded from the sued ones.
