Nepal Bar Council defies SC order to include Open University LLB graduates in exam

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Bar Council has ‘rejected’ the Supreme Court’s directive to include LLB graduates from Nepal Open University in the upcoming examination.

The Constitutional Bench at the SC had mandated the inclusion of LLB graduates from open universities in the forthcoming exam scheduled for December 29 and 30.

Following a meeting between the Office of the Attorney General and the Nepal Bar Council (NBC) on Sunday, it was concluded that LLB graduates from the Open University cannot be accommodated in the upcoming exam.

“While the Supreme Court has directed their participation, legal constraints prevent the inclusion of LLB graduates from open universities,” stated a release on behalf of the Council.

The NBC hinted at exploring additional measures to facilitate their participation in the exam after addressing administrative aspects concerning the rights of LLB graduates from open universities.

Expressing concern, Manisha Gautam, an LLB graduate from the Open University, criticized the Council’s violation of the court’s order. “We’re unable to fill out the exam forms. It’s distressing to see courts’ orders disregarded, jeopardizing students’ future. Where should we seek justice?” she questioned.
