Durga Prasai accuses DAO of last-minute reversal on demonstration permission

KATHMANDU: Medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai, leading the ‘Nation, Nationality, Religion-Culture, and Citizen Rescue Campaign’ in Kathmandu, has accused the District Administration Office (DAO) of abruptly revoking permission to hold a demonstration at Tinkune at the last hour.

Addressing a press conference at his residence in Bhaktapur, Prasai asserted that the DAO had initially granted permission to continue the campaign at Tinkune but rescinded it at the eleventh hour.

“When I was in Lahan, the Chief District Administrator informed me to conduct the inaugural demonstration at Balkhu and continue at Tinkune from the next day,” explained Prasai. “We had an agreement on that,” he added.

Prasai’s claims follow a press statement from DAO Kathmandu, asserting that Prasai had not obtained permission from the authority to stage a demonstration at Tinkune. The DAO warned of legal action if any activities were attempted that posed a threat to peace and security during the demonstration.
