KATHMANDU: The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) bid farewell to the Nepali cricket team as they embark on their journey to China for the Asian Games.
Nepal is set to clash with Mongolia on September 27, followed by a match against the Maldives on October 1.
Should Nepal advance past the group stage, they stand poised for a showdown with cricket giants such as India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, or Bangladesh.
CAN, in anticipation of this crucial event, meticulously assembled a revamped squad, incorporating key alterations from the lineup that participated in the Asia Cup earlier.
Notable inclusions in the team are the return of wicketkeeper Binod Bhandari, versatile all-rounder Bivek Kumar Yadav, and the dynamic fast bowler Abinash Bohara.
Binod and Asif will shoulder the wicketkeeping duties for the Nepali contingent in the Asiad.
Accompanying them, Nepal boasts experienced batting prowess in the form of Kushal Bhurtel, Rohit Paudel, and Sandeep Jora. Furthermore, the team features the dynamic trio of Dipendra Singh Airee, Kushal Malla, and Bivek Yadav, strengthening the all-round capabilities.
The bowling department is not to be underestimated, with Sompal Kami, Karan KC, Gulsan Jha, Pratish JC, and Abinash Bohara constituting the fast bowling arsenal, while Sandeep Lamichhane adds a spinning dimension.
However, it may be noted that Sandeep Lamichhane has encountered an unforeseen obstacle, as he remains unable to join the team in China due to an impending hearing on his case this Sunday.
