ICC World Cup Qualifiers: Nepal facing Netherlands today



KATHMANDU: Nepal is playing against the Netherlands today in the ICC One Day Cricket World Cup Qualifier.

The match will be played at Takasinga Cricket Club in Zimbabwe at 12:45 PM Nepali time.

Today’s match will be decisive for Nepal, who has lost two out of three matches at the beginning of the group stage.

Nepal is under pressure to win today to keep their Super Six chances alive.

Nepal, who is in Group ‘A’, suffered an 8-wicket loss against hosts Zimbabwe in the first match. In the second match, Nepal won by 6 wickets against America and added two important points. Due to this victory, Nepal’s Super-Six potential became a reality.

In the third match, Nepal, who performed fearlessly against two-time World Cup winners West Indies, was defeated by 101 runs.

In the group, West Indies and Zimbabwe are close to the Super-Six with two consecutive wins.

In this situation, the Netherlands and Nepal, who have won one match each, are expected to become the third team from this group to reach the Super-Six. The United States has been defeated in three consecutive games and is out of the group stage.

In the event that Nepal defeated the Netherlands today, Nepal will reach the Super-six provided the Netherlands is defeated by the West Indies in the next match.

At that time, the Super-Six will be decided based on the run rate. As of now, the Netherlands has a better run rate than Nepal.

Nepal and Netherlands are going to compete in ODI after five years. After getting ODI recognition, Nepal played a two-match series with the Netherlands. In the first match, Nepal was defeated by 55 runs, but in the second match, they (Nepal) won by 1 run.

Nepal is in Group ‘A’ in the 10-team tournament. The group includes two-time world champions West Indies, and hosts Zimbabwe, the Netherlands, and the United States, along with Nepal. Group B consists of Sri Lanka, Ireland, Scotland, Oman, and UAE.

After the league matches of two groups of five teams each, there will be Super Six. The top three teams from both groups will advance to the Super Six.

In Super Six, three teams from one group will play against three teams from another group. Where the top two teams will be selected for the ICC Cricket World Cup to be held in India in October-November.
