Top leaders meet at Singha Durbar to discuss contemporary issues

KATHMANDU: Top leaders of the major political parties — Maoist Center, CPN-UML, and Nepali Congress (NC)– held a meeting at the Prime Minister and Council of Minister’s Office in Singha Durbar on Monday afternoon.

According to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli along with NC leader Ramesh Lekhak, UML leaders Subash Chandra Nembang and Padam Giri attended the meeting.

The top leaders discussed various issues including the recommendation of the Chief Justice and the formation of the parliamentary committee in the meeting.

Earlier, the top leaders and the Constitutional Council meeting failed to reach a consensus on the recommendation of the chief justice.

The post of the chief justice has been lying vacant since an impeachment motion was filed against the then Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana 14 months ago.

As the leader of the main opposition party, UML Chairman Oli, who is a member of the Constitutional Council, has been maintaining the stance that the appointment of the Chief Justice should be recommended only by forming a parliamentary hearing special committee, the leaders have failed to reach any consensus till date.
