KATHMANDU: Ranipokhari is now open to the public, the first time after reconstruction.
The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC), the government body which looks after affairs of Kathmandu district, has opened the historic pond to the general people a week ago after the city police cleaned it, said KMC Spokesperson Nabin Manandhar.
The entry fee is free, and the entry time is between 6 am and 8 am. The pond will remain open 365 days a year unless any hurdles kick in, he said. “Beauty of the pond will be retained on a regular basis keeping in view of the mobility of visiting people. It is Kathmandu’s price,” he said.
Following damage by the 2015 earthquake, the pond got reconstructed after then President Bidya Devi Bhandari laid the foundation stone for the project the same year.
The reconstruction was over on 21 October, 2020, after five years, and was later handed over to the KMC on 23 December, 2021 by the National Reconstruction Authority.
