KATHMANDU: CPN-Maoist Center Deputy General Secretary Barshaman Pun has emphasized that advocating for a return to monarchy amidst the progress of democracy-driven initiatives is unjustifiable.
He emphasized that while there might be room for improvement in the choices for leadership and political parties, a monarchy cannot serve as a viable alternative to democracy.
Speaking at today’s Maoist Center program in Chandragiri-2, he commented, “Even though the monarchy was abolished upon the Constitution’s promulgation, substantial progress in people’s lives hasn’t been achieved. Our commitment remains to uplift the living standards of our people.”
He stressed that despite the establishment of democracy, the nation still awaits progress in areas such as federalism, secularism, inclusivity, and social justice. Additionally, the pursuit of economic prosperity remains incomplete.
Pun commended the current government led by Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, acknowledging the significant achievements in social security, governance, nationalism, and prosperity that previous governments and leaders couldn’t attain.
“Under Chairman Prachanda’s leadership, there have been significant strides in social justice, governance, and prosperity,” he stated. “The Maoist Center’s initiatives, such as the construction of the Mid-Hill Highway and the establishment of nine new highways as outlined in our manifesto, have been noteworthy. We took active measures to widen roads and mitigate landslides.”
He also highlighted the Maoist Center’s efforts against corruption and black-market activities, stressing the need for substantial improvements. Chandragiri-2 was a constituency won by the Maoist Center in the local elections.
