BHOJPUR: The flooded local Raute river has swept away a suspension bridge at Rautekhola in Temkemaiyung Rural Municipality-9 in Bhojpur district, affecting the life of local people.

The mobility of people has been affected after the link of a village with another one was cut as a result, said local people. Following this, the local people are forced to cross the flooded river risking their lives, they said.

Without a bridge, children of Raute, Hile, Rupathumki, and Khanigaun are compelled to go to the school risking their lives in crossing the swollen river, said Rajdhan Rai, the principal of the Singha Devi Secondary School.

“Life has been difficult after the bridge was washed away. Students are also finding it hard to reach the school. The problem is compounded when it rains,” he said.

The local people have demanded with the government at local, provincial, and federal levels, for the prompt construction of a bridge over the river.

“We risk our lives crossing the swollen river. We get our school uniforms, textbooks, and notebooks wet in the process,” lamented a student Dipak Bista, who is in Grade 11.
It takes around one and a half hours to reach the nearby bridge to cross the river, said Durga Bahadur Bishwokarma, who is a 10th grader at the school.

The flooded river has swept away the bridge, road, and 16 irrigation canals, said Nawaraj Mangpahangale Rai, the ward chair of the rural municipality-9. It has also damaged an under-construction concrete bridge, he added.
