Minister Kirati’s resignation call triggers RPP protest in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) organized a demonstration in Kathmandu, demanding the resignation of Sudan Kirati, the Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation.

The protest took place in Kathmandu’s Gausala area on Friday, with participants expressing concern over the minister’s remarks on religion, labeling them as irresponsible and unconstitutional.

Throughout the demonstration, attendees demanded Kirati’s resignation while rallying for the restoration of the monarchy, the overthrow of the republic, and other similar slogans.

Navaraj Singh, the chairperson of RPP Kathmandu, highlighted that Minister Kirati’s statement hurt the sentiments of Hindu populace comprising more than 81 percent of the population.

Singh also underscored RPP’s stance against federalism, advocating for the reinstatement of the Hindu state and monarchy agenda.

The controversy sparked following Minister Kirati’s statements, which allegedly favored Christians while accusing those opposing Christianity of being anti-constitutional and advocating for their imprisonment.
