Relief teachers reject govt deal, ask teachers to continue protest

KATHMANDU: The teachers working under the relief teachers category have firmly rejected the recently signed seven-point agreement between the teachers federation and the government.

Khemraj Adhikari, President of the Relief Teacher’s Federation, expressed their collective sentiment, deeming the agreement a betrayal.

He asserted that the seven-point accord was not signed on their behalf, prompting them to disassociate from the teachers’ federation and initiate a distinct protest movement.

Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayankaji Shrestha engaged in extensive discussions in an attempt to secure an agreement with relief teachers. However, the relief teachers’ representatives departed Singha Durbar without signing, citing the agreement’s failure to address their demands.

Adhikari also affirmed that, in light of their unmet demands, they (relief teachers) will issue a separate statement outlining their new course of action.

He underscored the importance of their demand that relief teachers appointed before 2075 BS be included in the School Education Bill, 2080 to safeguard their position.

According to Adhikari, the emergency meeting of the relief teachers will decide the modality of the protest programs ahead. He urged all teachers not to leave Kathmandu Valley unless their demands are also addressed.
