Sagarmatha Sambad for climate justice: Forest Minister Shahi



KATHMANDU: Minister for Forest and Environment Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri said preparation for Sagarmatha Sambad (dialogue) has been expedited to raise the issue of climate justice to the international level.

At a preparatory meeting of the International Conference on Clean Air and Climate Justice hosted here today by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC),

Minister Shahi expressed the ministry’s readiness to extend necessary support for the conference. He said the issues raised in the meeting were crucial for clean air and climate justice.

He stressed that Nepal can adopt the path of clean and sustainable development reflecting erroneous acts of other countries by availing of technology-facilitated opportunities.

He informed that the meeting of ‘Air Quality Management Action Plan-2076 BS’ for Kathmandu Valley was held after a long time in the presence of secretaries of 10 different ministries and the participation of executive chiefs of Kathmandu and Lalitpur Metropolitan Cities.

The key objective of the action plan is to ensure the right of citizens to live in a clean and healthy environment by preventing and controlling air pollution in the Kathmandu Valley, he said.

Minister Shahi informed that the Ministry of Forest is currently formulating a 10-year perspective plan on climate change nationally determined contribution (NDC) on the participation of all ministries
