Nepal announces preliminary squad for World Cup Qualifiers

KATHMANDU: The initial team of Nepal for the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers to be held in Zimbabwe next month has been announced.

Nepal’s Coach Monty Desai has announced a 22-member preliminary squad.

Kushal Bhurtel, Aasif Sheikh, Gyanendra Mall, Rohit Poudel (captain), Kushal Malla, Aarif Sheikh, Dipendra Singh Airee, Gulsan Jha, Sompal Kami, Karan KC, Sandeep Lamichhane, Bhim Sarki, Lalit Rajwanshi, Pratish JC, Arjun Saud, Sandeep Jora , Dev Khanal, Kishor Mahato, Surya Tamang, Kamal Singh Airee, Shyam (Mausam) Dhakal and Abhinas Bohora.

The training for the team will start from tomorrow. The one-week training is expected to sharpen the skill and boost the morale of the players.

The 15-member national team to play the World Cup Qualifiers will be announced after the intense training that starts on Tuesday.

The Nepali national cricket team is going to South Africa next week to make final preparations for the ICC Cricket World Cup qualifiers to be held in Zimbabwe from June 18.

The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) is preparing to send the Nepalese team to South Africa on May 31.

Before going to South Africa, the Nepalese team will prepare for a week at home. After training at home, Nepal will announce the 15-member national team for the World Cup qualifiers.

Nepal will prepare for ten days in South Africa. The Nepali team will reach Zimbabwe from there a week before the tournament.

Ten teams, including four test nations, are participating in the World Cup qualifiers. Two-time champions West Indies, and former champions Sri Lanka along with Ireland and Zimbabwe are participating in the tournament.

Along with Nepal, Oman, and Scotland secured their place in the World Cup qualifiers from League-2.
