KATHMANDU: Chief Justice Bishowambhar Prasad Shrestha has convened an informal meeting to deliberate on the recommendation of seven vacant judge positions within the Supreme Court.

Four members of the Judicial Council, including the Chief Justice, have assembled in the Supreme Court chambers to discuss and potentially finalize the recommendations for these judicial positions.

Sources within the Supreme Court have confirmed the presence of Chief Justice Shrestha, Senior Justice Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada, along with members Ram Prasad Shrestha and Ram Prasad Bhandari. However, due to the absence of Law Minister Dhanraj Gurung, a member of the Judicial Council, the present members are currently engaged in internal discussions.

Following an unsuccessful informal discussion on Monday involving Chief Justice Shrestha, Senior Justice Khatiwada, and the Judicial Council members, a subsequent meeting was held on Tuesday morning to address disagreements concerning the recommendations for the vacant judge positions within the Supreme Court.

Chief Justice Shrestha and Senior Justice Khatiwada have no assigned cases in Tuesday’s docket. Sources within the Supreme Court indicate that they are gearing up to finalize the nominees for the Supreme Court judgeships through a council meeting scheduled for Tuesday evening.
