KATHMANDU: In connection with the seizure of one quintal of gold that had passed customs check at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), government officials conducted a raid on a warehouse in Baluwatar.
The operation was carried out by a joint team of the Revenue Investigation Department and the Armed Police Force.
The target was a room in Baluwatar suspected to be holding ‘brake shoes’ containing smuggled gold.
Jeyung Lyn, the Chinese national associated with the warehouse, was already arrested.
Inside the room, six large boxes were discovered, but the contents are yet to be examined and verified by officials.
Earlier, Ashok Lama, a taxi driver detained by the Department, confessed to delivering the gold to the Baluwatar location in his statement.
Acting on this information, the Revenue Investigation Department and Armed Police Force proceeded with the raid at the mentioned address.
