NNL launches online ISSN service



KATHMANDU: The Nepal National Library (NNL) has started providing the International Standard Serial Number (ISSN) to magazines and journals of various publications online.

So far, the Library has provided the ISSN to 1,551 newspapers and journals. Now the number can be digitally obtained.

The Library under the Government of Nepal has been providing the service since 2065 BS. The Library is considered the official body to provide the ISSN. The Library, which was operating from Harihar Bhawan, Pulchowk, Lalitpur, has been shifted to Sanothimi, Bhaktapur since the 2072 earthquake.

Suresh Adhikari, secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, launched the online ISSN service of the Library on the occasion of a workshop on the preservation of books and newspapers organized here on Sunday on the occasion of the 16th National Library Day. On the occasion, he expressed the hope that the service would be more effective and quality in the days to come.

The Library head Dasharath Mishra said the service would be more effective. On the occasion, Pitambar Bhandari, the ministry’s undersecretary, said that help would be offered to formulate the integrated law required for the smooth operation of the entire library system. Suresh Kumar Yadav, head of the Keshar Library, gave a presentation on the current situation, possibilities, and challenges facing the Keshar Library.
