PM Dahal calls meeting of Constitutional Council

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” has called a meeting of the Constitutional Council on Friday.

According to his Secretariat, a meeting of the Constitutional Council will be held at the Prime Minister’s official residence, Baluwatar at 9 am on Friday.

The meeting is expected to recommend the appointment of the Chief Justice.

The post of Chief Justice has been vacant since December 13, 2022, after CJ Cholendra Shumsher Rana went on compulsory retirement.

Currently, the Hari Krishna Karki is the Acting CJ.

Opposition leader CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli, Speaker Devraj Ghimire, National Assembly Speaker Ganesh Timalsina and Deputy Speaker Indira Rana are members of the Constitutional Council chaired by the Prime Minister.

The Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs will be a member in the meeting of the Constitutional Council.

Currently, the post of Law Minister is also vacant.
