KATHMANDU: Medical education reformist, Professor Dr. Govinda KC, has announced the initiation of a three-day satyagraha, commencing at 5 pm today.
Dr. KC, recovering from gallbladder surgery just ten days ago, is starting the protest to advocate for essential reforms in the medical education and health sectors.
Addressing a press conference in Kathmandu on Friday, Dr. KC outlined his demands, including the implementation of prior agreements, augmentation of government hospital capacity through increased staffing, provision of free medicines, prompt establishment of the health science institute in Geta, and the establishment of at least one government medical college in each province, as stipulated in the Medical Education Act.
Additionally, Dr. KC is calling for accountability in cases of heinous crimes committed during the armed conflict, urging justice for the affected families, and expeditious completion of the transitional justice process.
Geographically, he emphasized the need for the government to fulfill its commitment to open medical colleges in Ilam, Udayapur, and Dadeldhura.
