Police arrest Constable Pun for firing at Barshaman Pun’s mother

KATHMANDU: The police have arrested police assistant constable Prakash Pun Magar for allegedly firing at CPN-Maoist Center leader Barshaman Pun’s mother at her residence in Baluwatar.

Pun’s mother, 74-year-old Tirthamali Pun Magar, was shot at around 10 o’clock last night at her house in Baluwatar.

According to the police, the central spokesperson of the police, SSP Dipendra GC, Assistant Constable Pun was deployed at the protection of the Chief Justice and had joined the family gathering at leader Pun’s brother’s house after finishing his duty.

Barshaman’s mother was injured due to the bullet. She was shot in the leg and taken to the trauma center for treatment.

Tirthamali is Prakash’s maternal grandmother in relation.

SSP GC said that the weapon Pun was carrying could have resulted in firing due to mishandling.
“We are investigating how the mishandling happened,” he said.

Assistant Constable Pun had run away from the site after the firing and was arrested later by the police.

He is being interrogated at the Police Headquarters.
