KATHMANDU: The parliamentarians from CPN-UML once again disrupted the session of the House of Representatives on Monday.

Since July 25, UML lawmakers have consistently prevented the parliamentary proceedings, pressing for the establishment of a high-level investigation committee to look into the case of gold smuggling from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).

Today as well, UML members chanted slogans, preventing the meeting from commencing.

At the commencement of the HoR session, Nepali Congress (NC) legislator Sunil Sharma immediately voiced his objection, stating that he had been apprehended by the state in a manner resembling that of a terrorist. In response, CPN-Maoist Center lawmakers raised objections to Sharma’s statement, defending the government’s actions as an effort to combat corruption across various sectors.

Meanwhile, UML lawmakers sustained their protest, demanding the government to establish a high-level commission for investigating the gold smuggling incident. Given the strong opposition stance by UML, the Speaker took the decision to adjourn the session until September 20.
