KATHMANDU: Foreign Minister NP Saud has called for sensitivity and discretion when discussing diplomatic relations, defense, security, and military matters concerning Nepal and other countries.
Minister Saud made these remarks in response to questions regarding ministry-related issues during a discussion on the Appropriation Bill, 2080, in the National Assembly on Thursday.
“I want to emphasize that the opinions expressed by honorable members in Parliament will serve as a guiding principle for the government,” Minister Saud stated.
“However, I kindly request everyone to exercise sensitivity and restraint when addressing topics such as diplomatic relations with various nations, defense, security, and military affairs.”
He further affirmed that the Nepali Army is proficient and committed to promoting global peace and safeguarding the country under UN missions.
Highlighting Nepal’s mature approach to foreign policy, he clarified that Nepal follows a non-aligned foreign policy and maintains harmonious relations with all nations.
Minister Saud emphasized Nepal’s diplomatic efforts to form independent viewpoints on international relations based on their merits and demerits.
During discussions on the budget and programs allocated to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its subordinate agencies under the Appropriation Bill, 2060, in the National Assembly, former Foreign Minister Bimala Paudyal Rai had earlier this week raised a question regarding whether Nepal has deviated from its non-aligned foreign policy.
In response, Foreign Minister Saud stated, “The Constitution of Nepal has established the fundamental principles for conducting foreign policy, with non-alignment being one of its core foundations.”
He further mentioned that Nepal is strengthening and expanding its relationships with neighboring countries based on principles of universal equality, mutual respect, and mutual benefit.
Minister Saud concluded by stating that Nepal’s independent, balanced, fair, and objective approach has earned it credibility and respect in the global arena.
