KATHMANDU: Former prime minister and Chairman of the CPN (Unified Socialist), Madhav Kumar Nepal, has said resolution to fight corruption is essential.
Corruption is thriving because of absence of adequate coordination among all organs of State, Chairman Nepal added.
Nepal said it while releasing a book, ‘Corruption in Nepal: Reasons and Elimination’, at a program in Kathmandu on Friday. The book is penned by former secretary of Nepal government, Ram Kumar Acharya.
“All sectors need to have the people who show resolve to curb corruption,” Nepal said, adding, “Both the will and resolution are required. It is imperative to free our system from corruption.”
He, however, said the corruption could not be controlled only with the initiative of a leader and prime minister.
Chairman Nepal pointed out the need of controlling corruption from the high to low level of Nepali political and administrative bodies.
Another reasons behind bad governance is excessive greed and political instability, he argued.
UML leader Yubraj Gyawali said a rigorous struggle is needed to curb thriving corruption.
“It takes time to remove this long entrenched ill. It is the biggest enemy of our country at present,” he said, adding that bad governance has plagued our political, cultural and development works.
On the occasion, CPN (Maoist Center) leader Rekha Sharma termed corruption a major obstructer of prosperity. It is engrained in society.
“We witnessed political changes, but state mechanisms failed to change as per changed system, thereby causing corruption,” she argued, adding that political leaderships should take initiatives to curb corruption.
Nepali Congress leader Pradeep Poudel expressed that the political system has started facing question due to corruption. He mentioned, “It cannot be mitigated until the system is in place to work. Now, transparency should be adopted.”
Similarly, Rastriya Swatantra Party leader Manish Jha shared that the political leadership should pay special attention to resolve different problems surfaced in the country. Saying the entire society is being affected due to multifaceted impact of corruption, he added that all should be united to raise voice against it.
Former Vice-Chairperson of the National Planning Commission, Dr Swarnim Wagle, mentioned that corruption control and promotion of good governance was possible only if the rule of law was established.
He opined, “Problems of areas with irregularities have been identified. We should move ahead towards the path of resolution and action.”
The book having eight-chapters has incorporated definition of corruption, scale, its theoretical and practical reasons, initiatives to control corruption, positive exercise and resolution of problem.
