KATHMANDU: The Special Court has sentenced seven individuals, on Monday, in a corruption case related to the tests conducted in Gandaki Province in December 2018 and November 2019 for driving licenses.
Special Court Chairman Tek Narayan Kunwar and members Ram Bahadur Thapa and Murari Babu Shrestha have sentenced all those found guilty to three to five months in prison along with a fine of five thousand rupees each.
According to the Court verdict, Bharat Mani Baral, Bharat Raj Kafle, Prem Prasad Shrestha, Dilli Ram Baral, Hom Nath Sharma, Mohan Mani Subedi, and Jhalak Poudel were found guilty. Poudel was the then Chief of the office while the others were computer officer and computer operators.
They were found to have manipulated the results by changing the outcomes of 116 examinees, who were initially unsuccessful in practical exams and absent during their examination sessions. They falsely declared two of them as unsuccessful in the practical test after they had passed.
The incident had been under investigation for three years, followed by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority filing a case specifically on March 18, 2022. In this case, Gokul Sharma and Hari Prasad Gautam have been acquitted.
