Doctors withdraw protest programs following an agreement with government

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Medical Association (NMA) has withdrawn its protest programs following a six-point agreement with the government.

Doctors, who had announced protest programs against the manhandling of a doctor on Friday, withdrew the ongoing protest following talks with the government on Sunday morning held at at the office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers.

The government has agreed to take action against the policeman involved in thrashing a doctor in front of the National Trauma Center on Friday.

The government has also agreed to arrange necessary treatment of the injured doctors.

Likewise, the doctors have agreed to submit suggestions to the Government of Nepal within one week regarding the amendments to be made in the “Safety Management Procedures of Special Persons, 2077” so that there is no discomfort to patients and general public and especially sensitive institutions and areas such as health institutions, schools, etc.

The Government of Nepal will implement these suggestions as soon as possible.

Similarly, they also agreed to effectively implement the provisions related to the safety of health workers and health institutions in accordance with the (with amendments) Act, 2066 on the safety of health workers and health institutions.
