KATHMANDU: The Press Council Nepal has set up an expert group to address the growing instances of code of conduct violations in the media sector.

According to the council, the group comprises seasoned journalists Taranath Dahal, Dr. Mahendra Bista, and Babita Basnet, who have commenced their work.

Dahal and Bista, both former presidents of the Nepal Journalist Federation, bring their extensive experience to the group, while Basnet, the former chairman of Sancharika Samuha, adds valuable expertise.

In addition to scrutinizing print and broadcast media, the expert group will also examine digital media content, public complaints, existing code of conduct provisions, council regulations, and future courses of action.

Council President Balkrishna Basnet expressed confidence that the expert group’s recommendations will play a crucial role in fostering a dignified, responsible, and trustworthy media sector.
