Our financial sector is safe, a small shock does nothing: Governor Adhikari



KATHMANDU: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Governor Mahaprasad Adhikari has said that the situation of banks and financial institutions in Nepal is safe.

Speaking at a press conference organized by NRB in Kathmandu on Tuesday, the Governor assured that the economic and financial situation is safe and will not be adversely impacted by minor shocks.

“Banks in various developed countries are also collapsing. There is curiosity about our financial situations. However, they do not face any danger here, the overall condition of our banks and financial institution is safe,” he said.

“The Capital Adequacy of ‘A’ category banks is 13.01 percent, “B” category banks 12.71 percent and “C” category banks 17.05 percent,” Governor Adhikari revealed, adding, “The minimum requirement for it is 11 percent.”

He informed the reporters that the foreign regulatory reserve is also in a favorable state.

The NRB Governor shared that the loan interest rate has been stable since mid-February, and the base rate is decreasing.

He added that inflation is on the decline.
