Tribhuvan Armcy Club clinches GP Koirala National Men’s Hockey Tournament title



KATHMANDU:  The departmental team Tribhuvan Army Club has won the title Girija Prasad Koirala Memorial 4th National Men’s Hockey Championship organized by the Nepal Hockey Association in Morang.

In the final held last night at the Biratnagar-based Martyrs’ Stadium, TAC defeated Nepal Police 1-0, winning the title. TAC was also the title holder of the previous tournament as well.

Koshi Province Chief Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki who attended the award distribution ceremony as a Chief Guest spoke of the need of hosting a women’s hockey tournament in the South Asia region in Biratnagar. He underlined the need of building a stadium of international standards in the Province to encourage youths to seek careers in sports.

Province social development minister Buddhi Kumar Rajbhandari, Hockey Association senior vice-chair Anil Prasad Sharma, Nepali Congress central member Dr. Dila Sangraula and tournament coordinator Ranjan Thapa among others were there to present awards to the winners.

With the victory, TAC bagged Rs 75,000 and a trophy, and Nepal Police Rs 41,000 and a trophy. The Sudurpaschim Province won Rs 25,000 for the third position. It defeated the Madhesh Province in the final.

The tournament that kicked off on April 5 was participated by two departmental teams and Koshi, Madhesh, Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim Provinces.
