Clean politics vital for change: DPM Shrestha

"Corruption is not acceptable under any pretext"

CHITWAN: Minister for Home Affairs, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, has underlined the need for a movement to clean domestic politics.

In his address to a press meet organized by the Press Centre, Chitwan today, the Deputy Prime Minister said we should first assess ourselves for corrections to take politics in a positive direction.

“Clean politics will change the country,” he said, admitting the prevalence of corruption in the country.

Corruption is not acceptable under any pretexts, according to the leader who said subordinate bodies under the Home Ministry had been already instructed to control corruption.

The Home Minister insisted the police should have a service-oriented approach and ensure pro-people services.

He pledged to take additional efforts to combat violence against women.

Citing that the right to citizenship is the Constitutional right of the people, the Minister said no Nepali should experience statelessness.

“No Nepali should be denied the right to get citizenship, but the problem is there due to the absence of required laws.”

The Home Minister promised to address the issue as early as possible, adding that national consensus was necessary to deal with some pressing issues over the citizenship.

“Non-Nepali are not eligible to acquire the Nepali citizenship and no Nepali shall be denied the right to obtain it,” he asserted.
