TRC should settle conflict-era cases, not courts: Maoist factions

To hold press conference on March 12; interaction on March 14



KATHMANDU: A joint meeting of the Maoist factions has decided to hold a joint interaction and press conference regarding the events during the “People’s War” era.

Deputy Secretary General of Maoist Center Janardan Sharma said that the meeting held at the Prime Minister’s residence Baluwatar on Friday morning decided to hold a press conference on March 12 and a joint interaction on March 14.

The interaction will be held among the political forces who have contributed to the peace process.

CP Gajurel, leader of CPN Revolutionary Maoists, said that the cases related to conflict-era incidents should be decided by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Disappearance Investigation Commission, not by the courts.

He said that the interaction will focus on this topic.

Leaders of the Maoist component as well as civil society, lawyers, journalists and stakeholders related to the peace process will be invited to attend the interaction.

Leaders of the Maoist stream have come closer after a writ was filed in the Supreme Court against the Prime Minister and Chairman of the Maoist Center Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda in the case of conflict-era incidents.

Chairman of Maoist Center Prachanda, General Secretary of CPN-Maoist Netra Bikram Chand Biplav, Maoist leader Dharmendra Bastola and Karnajit Budhathoki, among others, attended today’s meeting.
