11th NAFF underway at Naachghar, to screen 22 films

KATHMANDU: The 11th edition of ‘Nepal Africa Film Festival (NAFF)’ is underway at the local Rastriya Naachghar in Jamal since Saturday.

Nepal Film Development Chair Bhuwan KC inaugurated the three-day event.

On the occasion, KC said he hoped to see the event be an opportunity for the successful exchange of information about African and Nepali movies, emphasizing the significance of promoting cultural and artistic exchanges between these two geographically diverse countries.

As he said, the Board is always ready to collaborate on this type of event for enhancing their essence and gravity. He stressed the need of making additional further efforts to advance Nepali film industry and ensure its compatibility with the global market.

A total of 22 films: 10 Nepali and 12 African are to be screened during the festival.

The event is the joint initiation of the College of Journalism and Mass Communications (CJMC), the Board, and the Bilakshan Creation. CJMC principal Manju Mishra described the event as a platform for cultural exchanges between Nepal and Africa. “It is a bid to connect the two different continents by means of films.”

Festival director Dabbu Chhetri said, a day-long acting workshop themed ‘National and International Market for Short Nepali Movies’ has been scheduled during the festival.
