Ram Chandra Poudel elected Nepal’s President

Ram Chandra Poudel has been elected as Nepal’s President on Thursday. Senior leader of Nepali Congress (NC), Poudel garnered 214 votes from the Federal Parliament MPs and 352 votes from the Provincial Assembly lawmakers in the election held at the Federal Parliament on Thursday. Meanwhile, another presidential candidate Subash Chandra Nemwang of the CPN-UML, got 96 votes form the Federal Parliament members and 162 votes from the Provincial Assembly members.

UML Chairman Oli indicates possibility of UML-NC alliance

CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli has hinted at the possibility of forming a coalition government of Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML after the Presidential election. Speaking briefly to journalists on Thursday, UML Chairman Oli said that anything was possible in politics. “Anything is possible in politics. If not, why can’t NC and UML come together?” he queried.

JSP to field Ramsahay Prasad Yadav as Vice President

The Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) has decided to field Ramsahay Prasad Yadav as the vice presidential candidate. Member of Parliament, Pradeep Yadav, informed that the central execution committee meeting of the party held on Thursday decided to make Ramsahay Prasad Yadav the vice presidential candidate.

ICC World Cup League-2: Nepal defeats PNG by 52 runs

Nepal defeated Papua New Guinea by 52 runs in the first one-day match of the final series of ICC World Cup Cricket League-2 held at TU cricket ground in Kirtipur today. Put into bat first after losing the toss, host Nepal posted a huge score of 297 runs after losing all wickets in 49.1 overs.

EC to submit report on presidential election to President on Friday

The Election Commission (EC) is to submit a report along with the result on the presidential election held today to President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Friday. EC’s Spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Paudyal said that the EC is scheduled to submit the report along with the election result as per the Clause 60 of the President and Vice-President Election Act-2074 BS.

FSU election: TU bans placement of poster, pamphlet for publicity

The Tribhuvan University (TU) has prohibited pasting of posters and wall painting in view of the publicity under the Free Students Union (FSU) election scheduled to take place on March 19. The FSU election code of conduct issued by the TU forbids the placement of any sorts of election-related banner, flex banners and poster in public, according to TU Students Welfare and Sports Directorate Director Pashupati Adhikari.

Adult rhino found dead in CNP

An adult male rhino was found dead at Nawalpur area of the Chitwan National Park in Chitwan. According to the CNP, the 20-year-old animal was found lifeless near the Sehari Post along the Amaltari area inside the park that lies in Nawalpur of Nawalparasi east of the Bardghat Susta.

Gold price down by Rs. 500 per tola today

Gold price decreased by Rs 500 per tola in the domestic market on Thursday. According to the Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the price of fine gold was fixed at Rs 101,000 per tola and standard gold was traded at Rs 100,500 per tola.
