Nepal becomes SAFF U-20 Women’s Championship runner up, Bangladesh clinches gold

KATHMANDU: In the final of the SAFF U-20 Women’s Championship football tournament held in Bangladesh, Nepal became the runner-up after losing to the hosts Bangladesh on Thursday.

In the final match held at Veer Shrestha Shaheed Sipahi Mustofa Kamal Stadium in Dhaka, Nepal was defeated Bangladesh by 3-0 and became the runners-up in the tournament. Bangladesh remained undefeated in the tournament and became the champion.

Shahida Akhter Ripa, Shamsunahar Junior and Unnati Khatun scored one goal each in Bangladesh’s victory. The top two teams of the tournament, which was held on the basis of round robin, competed for the title. Four countries, Nepal, Bhutan India and Bangladesh had participated in the competition.

In the first match of the previous league stage, Nepal lost to Bangladesh 3-1. Similarly, Nepal defeated Bhutan 4-0 and India 3-1. Bangladesh, who played a goalless draw with India, defeated Bhutan with a 5-0 goal difference.
