Writ filed against Prachanda at Supreme Court

KATHMANDU: A writ against Prime Minister (PM) Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has been registered in the Supreme Court concerning the 10-year-long armed conflict-era cases.

The writ was registered at the Supreme Court soon after the Maoist leaders warned of countering activities against the Comprehensive Peace Accord (CPA) and the political change in the country.

Advocate Gyanendra Aran and Kalyan Budhathoki of Ramechhap filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court demanding that Prachanda, the then supremo of the decade-long armed conflict, be arrested and proceed with the necessary investigation.

The bench of Supreme Court Justices Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada and Hariprasad Phuyal last week ordered the registration of a writ against Prachanda’s statement that he would take responsibility for 5,000 people killed during the conflict.

According to the same order, a writ was registered in the Supreme Court on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the hearing on the writ is likely to be held on Thursday.
