Monsoon tragedy claims lives of 35, affects thousands



KATHMANDU: The ongoing monsoon season has resulted in a devastating toll, with 35 fatalities reported due to floods and landslides, while 27 people remain missing.

The National Disaster Response Framework, operating under the Ministry of Home Affairs, shared these distressing figures.

From June 14 to August 5, floods and landslides have left 45 people injured, and the calamity has taken a further toll on homes, completely damaging 111 houses and partially damaging 188 others.

Sankhuwasabha district, in particular, has been heavily impacted, with 19 people still missing due to the floods and landslides.

Authorities at the District Administration Office Sankhuwasabha have expressed grim prospects of finding them alive.

Today, in an incident in Tarekashwar municipality-5 in the west-north region of Kathmandu, a father and daughter from the same household lost their lives in a tragic landslide.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority have estimated that a staggering 12 lakh 54 thousand individuals may have been affected by the current monsoon season.
