KATHMANDU: The high-level investigation commission formed by the government, tasked with probing the gold smuggling case, commenced its operations.
The Commission has established its office within the premises of the Ministry of Home Affairs, utilizing an old building.
Chairman Dilliraj Acharya announced that the Commission, during its Wednesday meeting, initiated its work by making some crucial decisions.
In a press conference organized by the Commission, it was revealed that factual information and recommendations related to electronic cigarettes (Vapes) and various smuggling-related issues, including the smuggling of cigarettes concealed within brake shoes, would be disseminated through the media.
Furthermore, the Commission outlined its plan to address gold smuggling comprehensively, which includes proposed amendments and structural reforms to existing laws for stringent control, investigating past smuggling incidents and their repercussions, scrutinizing the involvement of individuals in smuggling, and launching further investigations.
Meanwhile, the first meeting of the Commission has reaffirmed its dedication to fulfilling its mandate while extending heartfelt gratitude to the Council of Ministers of the Government of Nepal for establishing the commission and entrusting it with this responsibility.
