Flight resumes at Suketar after 3 months

SUKETAR: After approximately three months, air flights have resumed at Suketar Airport in Taplejung starting Monday.

The flight operations were adversely affected by adverse weather conditions. Yesterday, Nepal Airlines Corporation’s aircraft took off from Suketar Airport for the first time in three months.

During the rainy season, visibility significantly diminishes due to regular fog and mist. As a result, no flights have been able to operate at Suketar Airport since June 7.

Sachin Tiwari, NAC chief in Taplejung, reported that with the improvement in weather conditions, regular flights will now be available three times a week; on Monday, Thursday, and Saturday.

The aircraft that departed from Kathmandu with seven passengers returned with just one passenger from Taplejung.

Tiwari mentioned that only one passenger was transported to Kathmandu due to the absence of a regular flight schedule, and passengers were not informed about the flight.

Tiwari also stated that four other passengers had made inquiries for Monday’s flight. However, it was uncertain whether the plane would arrive, so they opted to take a morning train to Bhadrapur instead.

Most passengers typically travel from Taplejung to Bhadrapur on other vehicles and then proceed to Kathmandu by air when the flights in Taplejung go uncertain.
