Three firms fined for violating consumer protection rules



KATHMANDU: The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection has fined three firms during its regular market monitoring and inspection.

According to the Department, Shankar Food Grocery Store in Kuleshwor and MDR Store, also located in Kuleshwor, were each fined Rs 20,000 following complaints identified during on-site inspections. Similarly, Gupta Gudpak Bhandar in Gongabu was fined Rs 5,000.

The Department said the action was taken in accordance with the Consumer Protection Act, 2075 BS.

A total of 39 firms were inspected in a single day, of which 36 were issued directives for corrective measures.

The Department stated that it has been carrying out regular market monitoring in coordination with consumer rights activists and other stakeholders.
