Not necessarily all parties come together for by-election: Dr. Bhattarai

KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister and Nepal Samajwadi Party Chairman Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has said that even though the 10-party coalition is meant to protect the constitution, it’s not necessary for them to come together in the April 23 by-election.

Dr. Bhattarai’s statement comes a day after the five ruling parties issued a joint statement appealing all to vote for the common candidate of the ruling coalition in the April 23 by-election.

“The 10-party coalition is a collaboration of political parties committed to the issue of national independence, protection of the constitution, the completion of the peace process, good governance and prosperity,” he said.

Dr. Bhattarai further stated that the political parties in the coalition, too, have disagreements on some issues.

“Therefore, it is not always necessary for everyone to be in the same place during elections or by-elections,” he said.

By-elections are being held in Tanahun 1, Chitwan 2 and Bara 2 on April 23.
