Siblings swept away by river on their way home from school in Rukum

RUKUM: A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Rukum West as a brother and sister lost their lives after being swept away by a river.

The victims, 10-year-old Manoj Budhathoki and his 6-year-old sister Bhawana, residents of Chaurajahari Municipality-6 Ghartikada, met their untimely demise on a fateful Sunday evening.

The devastating incident occurred when Ratan Budhathoki’s children were carried away by the river, which flowed dangerously close to their residence.

Pushpa Badi, the head of Chaurajahari municipality, confirmed the tragic occurrence.

Due to heavy rainfall earlier that Sunday afternoon, their teachers had advised them to wait for the weather to clear before heading home.

However, the Budhathoki brother and sister decided to decided to go home aiming to cross the river.

After the recovery of their lifeless bodies, they were sent to the district hospital for a post-mortem examination.
