Arun III hydropower worker dies, two injured



KIMATHANKA: A worker hired for the under-construction 900-megawatt Arun III Hydropower Project died after he was hit by a falling rock inside the project’s audit-2 tunnel at Amarang of Makalu rural municipality-5.

The deceased has been identified as Prem Rai, 27, of Silichong rural municipality-5.

District Police Office Sankhuwasabha said the incident occurred last night and Rai breathed his last this morning amidst the treatment at Sankhuwasabha District Hospital.

Others two are injured in the incident and they are Samamati Walita, 23 and Saimuddin Ali, 23 from Guwahati, India.

They are under medical treatment at the District Hospital. Over 300 workers including from India have been hired for the project.

The lack of a health facility at the project site has caused problems for them during health emergency.

In some cases, they are likely to face life-threatening circumstances in absence of timely treatment.

In addition to this, workers demand regular health-checkup services for them.
