KATHMANDU: Nepal Bar Association (NBA) has taken to protest alleging the government employees in Court have taken sides of the bribe-seeking staff and tried to make an advocate a scapegoat merely to defend the corrupt staff.

Issuing a statement on Sunday NBA announced not to take part in any court debate except on detention cases on Monday.

On behalf of the NBA, President Gopalkrishna Ghimire and General Secretary Anjita Khanal issued the statement.

The Bar has accused that while taking/giving services in connection with court proceedings on June 28, Lalitpur District Court’s non-gazetted officer Premika Gurung sought a bribe from High Court Bar Association, Patan Member Advocate Amir Lamichhane, and when the latter refused, she accused him of misbehavior.

The Bar accused the court administration of misrepresenting the reality and falsifying the incident.

NBA demanded a fair and impartial investigation of the case and has urged to consult CCTV footage to further investigate the issue.

The Bar warned to take defy the hearing on Monday provided the corrupt officials at the court are not made subject to action.
