Education Bill tabled in parliament, Minister Rai advocates keeping teachers out of politics

KATHMANDU: Ashok Kumar Rai, the Minister of Education, Science, and Technology, addressed the House of Representatives during the presentation of the school education bill, emphasizing the importance of detaching teachers from political involvement.

Minister Rai underscored their commitment to maintaining a clear separation between teaching and politics, stating, “We aim to ensure that teachers are not entangled in political matters.” However, he emphasized that this separation should not compromise the quality of education or hinder the trust people have in educators.

The proposed Education Bill includes provisions that prohibit teachers from being members of political parties or associated fraternal organizations. Additionally, it establishes a Teachers’ Federation, allowing teachers to organize within the framework of trade union rights while remaining apolitical.
