Biplav-led CPN announces protest programs against MCC



KATHMANDU: The Communist Party of Nepal, under the leadership of Netra Bikram Chand “Biplav,” has unveiled a series of protests against the US Grant Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).

During a meeting of the party’s Standing Committee held on Friday, a unanimous decision was reached to initiate protest actions against the implementation of the MCC Compact within Nepal.

In its initial phase, the party has outlined plans to conduct awareness campaigns and peaceful marches.

Further details concerning the second phase of protests will be announced shortly.

The party has also laid out plans to organize events in various locations, including Lapsiphedi, Nuwakot, Dhading, Palpa, Nawalparasi, and Rupandehi.

The Government of Nepal and Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) marked the official start of implementation for the MCC Nepal Compact Program, a program jointly funded by the GoN and MCC on Wednesday.

Finance Minister Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat and Vice President- Compact Operations at MCC Cameron Alford, exchanged the letter on the Entry into Force (EIF) of the Nepal Compact before key stakeholders at a gathering organized in the Ministry of Finance.

EIF is an important milestone for MCC compacts as it marks the fulfillment of necessary conditions and preparation to ensure successful completion of Compact projects within a five-year timeline.
